Cakes for Japan logoThis awesome charity bake sale was held on Friday 18th March in aid of the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal. Organised by Miss Cakehead, bakers from all over town donated highly original cakes and raised over £2000 in three sugar high hours. The venue was Maiden in Shoreditch and a lovely logo was designed by monsterism illustrator Pete Fowler.

Xtina made some Japan flag bunting to decorate the shop, but had to drop it off too early to get her hands on any of the fantastic sushi cakes, cherry blossom cookies or green tea cupcakes. Photos of the beautiful cakes are on Flickr.

Miss Cakehead is encouraging people to organise their own pop-up cake shops, and already there are events planned in Edinburgh, Brighton and Leeds. Check the Cakes for Japan blog to read more, get inspired and get involved
