Gocco printing workshop at ShepherdsXtina has two all day print workshops lined up for Gocco fans. Firstly, remember remember to visit Shepherds Falkiners‘ fine paper shop in Bloomsbury on the 5th of November – for a day of Gocco printing using hi-mesh masters and oil based inks. Gocco bulbs will flash like fireworks and ooos and ahhs will ring out at a lovely explosion of prints made from your own artwork.

There will be examples of Gocco work, tips for getting the best results and ideas such as how to re-use damaged screens. You can also try out the squeegee printing method. Shepherds will be supplying fine papers to print on. You’ll take home your screen and prints.
Book via Shepherds 020 7831 1151 or matt@bookbinding.co.uk
£60, max 5 places.

PG-11 Gocco and screen printing kitPart two takes place at Xtina’s studio at Craft Central in Clerkenwell on Sunday 4th December, and promises a day of Gocco screen printing and experimentation. Make screens from your own artwork using the Gocco machine and Riso mesh. Stretch the mesh on a thin plastic frame, then print with a lightweight squeegee and water based screen printing ink.

Try out a thermofax machine to make a screen without using Gocco bulbs, and print with texture screens and hand cut stencils onto cards, paper, notebooks and fabric. Registration techniques and lots of tips will be shared. The screens you make are yours to take home. You can carry on printing with them later with supplies easily bought from art shops, and it’s ideal timing for making Xmas cards or gifts!

Sandwiches, tea and cake are included in the price.
£60, max 6 places

Xtina likes priScreen printing a tote bagnting just as much as she likes finding a big box of beautiful 50s tablecloths and curtains at a boot fair! She also loves infecting other people with her enthusiasm for printing, so roll on June and July because there are some great print workshops coming up.

To accompany the Printed Wonders showcase at Craft Central in June, Xtina is running Adana letterpress machinethree workshops that reflect the processes she uses in her work. You’ll be able to create fast screen prints with help from a Print Gocco machine – perhaps printing a design onto bunting or making artworks on cotton paper.

Then with a bit of heaving, Adana machines will be at your disposal for the letterpress workshop. You can lino cut your own design and print it onto stationery or fine papers, and have a go at setting some movable type.

Inking rubber stamps for fabric printingFinally in that venue, we have a lovely fabric printing workshop, taking inspiration from mid-century British textile designers, carving soft rubber blocks and using rubber stamps specially designed for the workshop to print lengths of fabric and a tote bag. Take away your creations and let us know how you use them!

Shepherd Falkiners have invited Xtina to run a day-long Print Gocco workshop at their marvellous shop in Bloomsbury, a wonderland of fine papers and treasure trove of bookbinding supplies. Taking the participants through the process of creating their own Gocco prints, Xtina will show examples of her work, pass on many tips for getting the best results, demonstrate screen registration, and share ideas for re-using damaged screens and some experimental techniques.

Mid-July brings another Crafty Pint North event, and this time Seaside Sisters will be hosting a fabric printing workshop inspired by the Festival of Britain. As with all Crafty Pint events, these are low cost workshops run by local designer-makers, and held in pubs for a relaxing creative afternoon. Places have been booking up fast for this one, but there are still a few left.

Seaside Sisters have taken over Craft Central’s window with a ‘Souvenir Shop’ style display of our goodies until 8th May. It’s visible 24 hours a day from St Johns Square, Clerkenwell.

On Saturday 8th May we are running two workshops to share some of our crafty secrets. Throughout the day you can learn how to make beautiful prints and create fancy bunting decorations, play the tombola, tuck into tea, cakes and sandwiches, and try your luck on the crafty hoopla. Drop in to the Craft Central foyer where the souvenir shop will be open and we’ll be showing off favourites such as our lovely seaside purses, souvenir tea towel bags and bunting flags.

Print Gocco Workshop, 10am – 1pm

In the morning workshop, Xtina Lamb shows how to get the most out of a Print Gocco, the cult Japanese printing machine much loved by designer makers and artists. Topics include: creating artwork, DIY registration techniques, screen printing on cloth, troubleshooting, and creating larger prints with a standard sized machine. A range of Print Gocco machines will be demonstrated, example artwork will be on show and you can make your own prints using the techniques shown.

This workshop is great for those who have a Print Gocco machine already, or those who are curious about whether to get one. It’s an easy process but there are lots of ways to experiment and push this lovely little gadget beyond the simple prints it was designed for. Bring along your own artwork, draw it on the day, or use the images provided in the workshop. For examples of work created with a Print Gocco, take a look at the wonderful Gocco Flickr group.

All materials are included in the £20 workshop fee, including screens, bulbs, cloth, paper, cards and inks.

Bunting Making Workshop, 2 – 5pm

In the afternoon bunting making workshop you can raid the Seaside Sisters’ stash of gingham, vintage fabrics, buttons and haberdashery galore to make your very own bunting flags. Spell your name, make a slogan or just create and decorate!

£5 buys you a bunting making starter kit and additional flags are 50p each. All materials are included and the Seaside Sisters will be on hand to teach fancy embroidery stitches and provide demos of bunting making magic.
