Beauty spots
December 4, 2009 at 6:43 pm | Posted in Products | 4 CommentsTags: beauty spots
Pose like a Georgian with self-adhesive beauty spots.
Black velvet ‘patches’ were worn by both ladies and gentlemen from Elizabethan times, but became very fashionable in the mid 18th century. They were used to cover blemishes such as smallpox scars, but also to communicate political persuasion, marital status and various intentions. It was common for them to be given as gifts, and they were stored in special patch boxes.
This pack of 25 sticky-backed flocked shapes has an illustrated header by Xtina Lamb, with a haughty, married (heart shape on right cheek) Georgian lady wearing a pompadour hairdo. Beauty spot codes such as ‘saucy’ and ‘will kiss but nothing more’ are listed on the back of the header.
Beauty spots £2.50, buy from Seaside Sisters stalls (see Events).
Linen clipper ship bags

Ahoy shipmates! These stylish bags were 60s printed linen table mats in a previous life. One side has a clipper ship sailing the ocean and compass rose, and the other shows a cargo of Jamaican rum and pipes.
Big enough to haul a chunky paperback, they come in 3 colour ways, are lined with contrasting taffeta and have a snap fastener. The strap is long so it can be worn across the body or over the shoulder, and a vintage plastic buckle lets you adjust the strap length. Each bag is unique and due to the vintage material there are only 5 of them – so grab em quick.
Clipper ship bag – £25
Available from the Seaside Sisters stall at the Old Truman Brewery (see Events for details).
